Tonight a baby bird,
Caught by cat,
Died in the
Palm of my hand.
I could not bring myself to
End its suffering.
The only thing I knew,
I felt,
was that nothing
Should pass this world
Alone.
I held it tight
As if the warmth of my body
Might somehow make a
Jesus effect.
Lazarus.....
Lazarus awake!!!!!!!
I am no deity.
I sat
For hours
Holding this tiny piece of
Waning flesh,
Dripping water drops
Into its gasping mouth,
Knowing the best I could give was
Comfort
In these cold,
Last moments.
And then it happened.
Two last death rattles.
One for every creature
Ever hurt.
One for all futures
Never to be met.
