(8-05-03)
I cut my arm tonight.
The pills were supposed to
Stop that.
I found the scared rabbit,
The beating heart of a
Frightened bird
Just under that course muscle
That leads up the neck.
Ear to ear,
Under chin,
Bloody grin.
Listen to the pros on this.
Many years of study.
Columbian necktie.
The arm no longer
Satisfies.
I seek the very
Pulse of life.
My friend
The other day
Went down to her basement,
Laid the tarot,
Made the sign of
The cross,
Took a handful of pills,
Tied a bag around her head
And slit her wrists.
I admire her strength.
I admire her courage.
I admire her sense of purpose.
She was, of course
Insane.
But she had no chance.
She could not stop it.
Such a light
Cast into the darkness
Makes all angels
Cry.
Not much different than
You and I.
She tried to name her demons,
Wrote them down and called in vain.
She only knew that she was she and
We were all to blame.
